CUBC Delegation Successfully Concludes Visit to Canada
In early June 2023, the Canada-UAE Business Council (CUBC) conducted a successful delegation visit led by the Hon. Jean Charest, Partner at McCarthy Tétrault and CUBC Co-Chair (Canada) and Mr. Musabbeh Al Kaabi, Executive Director of Low Carbon Solutions and International Growth at ADNOC and CUBC Co-Chair (UAE), to Toronto, Regina and Saskatoon (Canada) focused on advancing bilateral commercial relations, expanding trade and investment opportunities, particularly around sustainability, energy innovation and security, critical minerals, agriculture and championing climate action ahead of the United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP28, being held in Dubai, UAE, from November 30–December 12, 2023.
The delegation met with senior business executives, including TD Bank Group President and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Bharat Masrani, as well as government leaders, including the Premier of Saskatchewan, the Hon. Scott Moe, the Minister of Energy of Ontario, the Hon. Todd Smith, the Minister of Mines of Ontario, the Hon. George Pirie, the Minister of Energy of Saskatchewan, the Hon. Jim Reiter, the Minister of Trade and Export Development of Saskatchewan, the Hon. Jeremy Harrison, and the Minister of Agriculture of Saskatchewan, the Hon. Dave Marit.
During the visit, the Business Council hosted an exclusive fireside chat at the Canadian Club Toronto featuring The Honourable Jean Charest and Mr. Musabbeh Al Kaabi.
In conversation with Global News’ Editor-in-Chief Sonia Verma, they discussed the importance of the bilateral relationship, and how, as two of the largest energy producers in the world, and world leaders in energy technologies, Canada and the UAE are uniquely positioned to champion and advance the clean energies of tomorrow.
Event attendees included H.E. Fahad Al Raqbani, UAE Ambassador to Canada, H.E. Kris Panday, Ambassador of Canada to the UAE, and John Stackhouse, former Editor-in-Chief of the Globe and Mail and currently Senior Vice-President of the Royal Bank of Canada.
